What If it had been an American who had thrown the shoe(s) at President Bush?

What would the effect be if it had been an American, as opposed to an Iraqi, who had thrown shoes at Bush? I understand the cultural context of shoes in the middle east, but how differently would be the reaction? Would people praise it, condemn it, etc. Just curious, humor is welcomed if need be.
