Harley rider looking at getting a sports bike?

I have been riding harleys for close to 20 years and i have had a triumph speed triple 10 years ago. I have been looking at the handa cbr600rr and the yzf-r6. does anyone have any suggestions? both feel good when i sat on them. The salesman suggested the r-1 but I thought it would be too much power right away.
