How did hayden influence beethoven as a musician?

I forgot the particulars, but oen of my professors said that Beethoven claimed that he didn't get anything out of studying composition with Haydn, but there is evidence to the contrary. Beethoven's post-Haydn string quartets resemble Haydn's string quartets more closely than do Beethoven's pre-Haydn string quartets. If you compare Beethoven's earlier and later quartets, that may give you a clue.
